The myth of the swan madien refers to aerial women who shape-shift between human and avian forms, but with more vulnerable captivity in the former of having to adhere to rules of child bearing, and commitment to human men. This contrast between the ariel form owning the ever expanding sky and the internal agony of trying to ascend this paradoxical loop of involvement with humans and rejection of the laws that govern them, is depicted in the cockeyed wings of the swan, eyes filled with stoic agony and a feathered animal hybrid, preventing or aiding its flight.
