The issues of redevelopment of cities, the displacement they engender and their subsequent transformation have always intrigued the artist ever since he shifted from the smaller town of Amravati to Mumbai. Here, the smallest of spaces is territorialized, every inch coveted and fought over by people and infrastructure projects. This vertical growth of the city, where a small vacant plot or an old house almost unbelievably metamorphoses into a skyscraper. The development of urban spaces also alters the way we navigate them and he is also interested in the movement of bodies within the city and their relationship to space, even though the human figure itself is consciously absent but its subtle existence is seen in the drawings.
The city is always under construction. This transitional stage of the city intrigues Pratap to make this work, which looks like a proposed plan or a drawing. And as you observe closely, in the drawing one gets to see the various layers of the city.
