The pentagram works were created during the covid lockdown, coincidently, also a time when there were various changes in the artist's own living arrangements, a time when the mind refused to find the tranquility required to sit still, focus and create.
Despite years of hating frames of any kinds, this work started off as a small work woven on a frame. It eventually became a patchwork of multiple small works created first on a frame and assembled together, other techniques and textures joined in to create larger pieces. The denim was sourced from the cupboards of the men dear to the artist. Thread for the first time plays dominant role in the work creating a contrast in textures and strength. Thus the ‘delicate’ thread binds and supports the ‘strong’ fabric.
The title Pentagram is inspired by the original form of the small pieces, a star like form reminiscent of the Wicca pentagrams, Daily spells woven in a search for a better balance.
Pentagram White – Named for the white crochet web that holds the woven fabric together.
