Waste: a problem or a resource?
In conversation with Deepali Sinha Khetriwal & Ritu Thakur, moderated by Andrin Fink
Date: Friday, 13th July 2018
Time: 7:30 - 8:30 pm
(The event is free but we request you to RSVP)
Mumbai is the world’s fifth largest city in terms of waste generation. India generates over 150,000 tons of municipal solid waste every day. Only 80% of the waste is collected, less than 30% is treated. Rapid urbanization adds to the existing challenges. Until 2025, India’s waste generation is expected to more than double. How will India tackle the ever-growing amount of waste? Is waste segregation and recycling the solution to pollution? And can art change our negative perception of waste?
Waste management experts – Ms Deepali Sinha Khetriwal (Sofies) and Ms Ritu Thakur (ICLEI South Asia) – will discuss some of the challenges and potential solutions around waste management in India. Mr Andrin Fink of the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) will moderate the session.
